I love the end of the year: The weather gets colder, and it’s the time for indulgence. Candy in October, the year’s largest meal in November, and finally hearty gifting all around between Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, winter solstice, and whatever else you may be celebrating. Here are the 5 big gadgety picks that I’m hoping to get.
[Photo: Sony]Whoa, this list just got expensive fast. Yes, I know it’s probably not the cheapest 24-inch screen around. But this PlayStation 3DTV perfectly fits my needs for a computer monitor and a personal gaming HDTV I can set up at my desk. It’s 1080p, 240Hz, and 3D; it’s got some fancy dual-viewing model; and it’s a Sony–so I’ll know it’ll be a great display.
Now it’s time to get some great sound out of everything. I’ve already got a pair of Tritton AX 720s that sound great but this is a wish list and why not wish for some of the sharpest sounding 7.1 Dolby Surround headphones around.
Okay, first off, yes I know this comes after Christmas, but this will be my first techy purchase for next year. I put off buying a PSP across all four of its iterations, so I’ve already got a full generation of games to catch up on, along with a great PS Vita launch lineup. I really can’t wait to use dual analog sticks on the go and pinching the touch surfaces on both sides of this thing.
I might be the minority among the gigantic iPad user majority, but the Kindle Fire has everything I need in a tablet, and I can even hold it one hand!
Sure, it could be a little more powerful, but it’s perfect for reading George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, watching Netflix, catching up on Batman comics, and maybe a little bit of hackery.
I thought it was about time I got to actually playing my library of Steam games and not just buy everything on a holiday sale. So I’m going with the gaming PC maker Origin, as previously suggested by GeekTechers.
It does not have to be anything too special–just a motherboard I can expand to do Nvidia SLI, Intel i7 Quad-Core something or other, and Nvidia GTX 570 video card.
Because, honestly, it’s Geekmas miracle to get a great liquid-cooled gaming PC assembled to your specification, with no fuss, and shipped to your door step in awesome-looking wooden crate.
