3D imaging has infiltrated the photography world in a big way and each new camera released seems to include a new 3D feature. With 3D movies and DVDs attracting so much attention, everyone wants in on the action but as more features are added to cameras the prices increase too and 3D-capable cameras begin to hurt the pocket.
There is now a cheaper alternative, though. The DXG 018O 3D Camera released by DXG Digital Camera Company costs under $100 (around £60). Unfortunately you do get what you pay for, though. While the DXG 018O 3D Camera does give you 3D image in the end it isn’t a high performance machine.
Specs
There is very little customising possible with the DXG 018O 3D Camera. It has an ISO of 100 which cannot be changed and it doesn’t have a built-in flash. This means that low light photography is impossible without massive amounts of blur on your images, you will have to shoot in bright light to get any reasonably focused photographs. Its lens might bring in a bit more light with a fixed aperture of f/2.8 but not much.
It uses a dual lens system to create the 3D images, which means that it takes two images and layers them to create a 3D effect. Each lens has a 0.3-megapixel image sensor which when combined will create a 1.3 megapixel resolution image.

3D viewing
The DXG 018O 3D does have a 1.44-inch LCD screen but this is intended for framing your photographs only and isn’t 3D enabled. To view your images in 3D you will first need to print them and then insert them into one of the 3D viewers that come with the camera.

The DXG 018O 3D camera may not be at the top of the specs tree but for the price you pay for it that’s to be expected. It will, however, make a nice gift or a complementary camera to your usual one for a different take on things.
